Welcome to the 2014 - 2015 school year!
Hello! My name is Mr. Spruill or as some may call me, Mr. S. I will be teaching 7th grade science this year for your child on the Panthers Team! The idea of this website is to give you the most up-to-date information about my science class, and to give you a secondary source of information that you can use just in case your child gets sick or is absent for any reason. This site also will provide information that the student will find helpful to extend their learning beyond the classroom. I am very excited about starting a new year at West Millbrook with new faces and look forward to a fun and interesting year in 7th grade science!
Student Expectations
Students are expected to be prepared for class every day. This means they should have all materials needed for that day when they enter the classroom, including any homework that is due. Students are also expected to follow the WCPSS code of conduct and the guidelines WMMS has spelled out for them in the CAT Matrix. If a student fail to meet these expectations they will face consequences and interventions as appropriate.
Daily Routine
Students are expected to enter the classroom in a timely manner each day. They will have a "warm up" assignment to be completed in their Warm Up Notebook daily. The Warm Up Notebooks will be graded bi-weekly normally, these grades will be counted as a class work grade.
There will also be projects assigned throughout the year that students may need to work on or complete at home. I will communicate my expectations in those cases through my webpage and a project guide/hand out for students.
Grading Method
Grades will be calculated using a 7 point scale.
A = 93-100
B = 85-92
C = 77-84
D = 70-76
F = <70
Weighted percentages for each category graded are as follows:
Tests / Project 35%
Classwork/Labs 25%
Quizzes 25%
Homework 15%
Homework and Missing Work
All Homework and assignments are posted on teacher website http://mrspruillscience.weebly.com/
Students that miss work must follow guidelines set forth in the student handbook. As a 7th grade team we will allow the students to turn in missing work with the maximum allowed score for 80% up to next interim (unless specified otherwise in handbook). We will send home an Interim every 2 weeks to make sure that we are all provided the best effort to make sure our students aren’t getting behind and everyone is aware.
The following is a list of items that will be extremely helpful in the daily operation of our classroom and some activities planned for the year outside of the Panther Team list distributed. I thank you for whatever assistance you may be able to offer with any of these items on the Wish List.
Your student will need:
*****Tennis Balls***** If you play tennis and have a lot of extra ones around that would be great. Really need them to help maintain focus and keep the noise down as desk & tables are moved.
Clear Tape
Tissues
Hand Sanitizer
Copy Paper
Loose Leaf Paper
Composition Notebook
Colorful sharpie permanent markers
pack of index cards
white poster board
latex-free bandages
disinfecting wipes
pencils
Any of these items supplied would be greatly appreciated to maintain classroom supplies through the year for those that may not be able to obtain.
Thank you for your time and active participation in our students’ success!
